EVwire brief: Over 55% of Tesla's new deliveries in North America now include an FSD subscription, a record attach rate per the Q2 2026 shareholder deck.
Active FSD subscriptions reached 1.48 million in the quarter, up 56% YoY from 950,000, with the deck citing record net new subscriptions. The count includes both upfront payments and monthly subscriptions, and excludes free trials.
More customers are opting in at the moment of vehicle purchase, which turns FSD from an aftermarket upsell into something closer to a default configuration choice.
FSD adoption grew in the quarter, including record net new subscriptions. We also achieved record FSD attach rates in North America, with over 55% of new deliveries including FSD subscriptions.
The subscription business is also showing up in the financials: the deck lists "higher automotive ancillary sales, primarily driven by an increase in FSD subscriptions" as a positive driver in both its YoY revenue bridge and its YoY operating income bridge.
On the software side, FSD v14 lite began rolling out to AI3 (HW3) vehicles in the US, with South Korea following in July. The build "distills the driving behavior from AI4's v14 series into both the camera and compute configuration of AI3" and adds destination options (parking in a lot, on the street, in a driveway or at the curbside) and speed profiles. Tesla's VP of AI Software has said a wide release for the HW3 fleet is "likely".
In Europe, approvals came through in Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark and Belgium on top of the Netherlands, and customers in approved countries have driven over 50 million kilometers (31 million miles) on FSD as of July. Tesla says it is "seeing elevated interest in our vehicles in markets with FSD approval." Cumulative miles driven on FSD (Supervised) across the fleet now approach 12 billion (over 19 billion km).
The attach rate is the number I'd watch over the subscription total. Half the buyers saying yes at checkout, in the region where FSD costs the most, is the strongest demand signal the software business has ever printed.
Context: the 1.48 million subscription figure is one of the metrics tracked under Tesla's 2025 CEO Performance Award, which is why it now gets a standing line in the deck's operational summary. A year ago the count was below one million; it has added roughly 200,000 net subscriptions in each of the last two quarters. Full quarter numbers are in our Q2 2026 earnings deck recap.
