EVWire brief: The Danish government has boosted this year’s Funding Scheme for the Green Transition of Heavy Transport to DKK 352.5 million ($55.2M) and simplified access so operators can apply on behalf of fleet customers. The pool backs purchases or leases of zero-emission trucks and depot-charging infrastructure.
Details:
The 2025 budget rises from DKK 323 million after DKK 29.5 million earmarked for biogas trucks was re-allocated on 2 July.
Leasing of charging equipment is now eligible, lowering upfront capital needs.
Funding opens on the 3rd of September and closes on the 30th of September, allocating funds on a first-come basis. Each company can receive up to DKK 4 million (~$630k)
The previous 75M DKK ($11.75M) round sold out in eight minutes, supporting 36 projects.
Bigger picture: Denmark is, after Norway, the second place in EV uptake in Europe and third in the whole world — per our data, 51.5% of cars sold in Denmark were fully electric in 2024.
While the electric truck segment is still in its infancy, Denmark seems to set in leading the uptake in this as well. In 2024, 447 of the 4,822 new trucks registered were battery-electric in Denmark, lifting their market share from 6.3% in 2023 to 9.3% in 2024.
The momentum continued into the first half of 2025, when 284 of 3,205 new trucks, about 8.9%, were electric. Most of the gains came in the lighter N2 class (3.5–12 tonnes), where 204 electric units accounted for more than half of all new N2 registrations, while the heavy N3 segment (>12 tonnes) slipped to 80 units. The later could be expected as fleets were waiting for the very incentives this article is writing about above.
Quotes:
❝It is really gratifying that we now have larger overall pools to support electric trucks in Denmark, so that the framework conditions are clear and where you don't have to go as a haulier and, for example, wait a year for the next pool. This is where the support is needed for the next few years, so it is a really good starting point for rapid and stable electrification.
Electrification of trucks is not a test. We are in the process of general transformation of the technology in trucks. And although we need to support electric trucks in the coming years to get them widespread, we need to get to a place where development is generally market-driven.❞
