Amazon’s Electric Delivery Vans hit the streets in Vancouver

EVWire brief: Amazon’s partnership with Rivian expands to Canada as 50 all-electric delivery vans (EDVs) begin service in Vancouver.

Amazon’s new electric delivery vehicles, built by Rivian, have officially arrived in Canada. Roughly 50 of the tech-forward vans are now operating out of Amazon’s Delta, B.C. delivery hub, serving customers across Vancouver.

Each EDV combines Rivian’s advanced EV engineering with Amazon’s logistics expertise, offering a low-emission, driver-friendly alternative to conventional vans. Inside, drivers benefit from modern comforts like heated and ventilated seats, intuitive digital controls, and generous cargo space.

Rivian’s reputation for rugged, high-end electric vehicles continues to grow. Its R1T pickup and R1S SUV are already popular among outdoor enthusiasts and premium EV buyers in North Vancouver. The company also supports broader electrification efforts, serving as the engineering partner behind the Morgan Olson C250e, the electric model of Canada Post’s new delivery van.

While this rollout is a win for sustainable transportation, it also comes amid shifting dynamics in the commercial EV sector. The U.S.-made EDV arrives just days after General Motors ended production of its BrightDrop electric delivery vans in Ontario, which shows just how hard it is to scale domestic EV manufacturing.

Rivian, too, is navigating industry turbulence. The automaker recently announced plans to lay off approximately 600 employees as global EV demand cools and the loss of federal EV tax incentives in the U.S. squeezes profit margins.

Still, Rivian’s premium EV lineup and long-term contracts, like its deal to supply Amazon, offer some comfort during market pressures.

Vancouver residents can expect to see the distinctive Rivian-built Amazon EDVs making daily rounds across the city, delivering packages with a cleaner, quieter footprint. As Canada continues expanding EV infrastructure, these electric vans symbolize how corporate logistics fleets can accelerate the country’s low-carbon transition.
