EVWire brief: Ignitis On, the charging subsidiary of largest Lithuanian utility company Ignitis, will be deploying up to 600 fast chargers in Baltics by the end of 2027 — now with the help of a €60M ($68.5M) 10-year loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The total costs from Ignitis to deploy these is expected to reach up to €76M ($86.7M).

Connection: The EBRD is also Ignitis’ second-largest shareholder following its initial public offering in 2020.

Context: This loan adds to the €16M grant Ignitis secured from the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF), a program in which several of its competing cross-Baltic charging networks have been a part of during the recent rounds. This funding was to be used to deploy 222 fast chargers. It was also said in the loan announcement, that the group has a right to receive an additional €3.78M grant within the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).

Note: I am currently not sure if the 222 are included in the 600 fast chargers noted above or in addition to them, I’ve reached out to clarify.

“Our charging network tripled in size in 2024, and we are continuing to actively pursue our expansion across the Baltic states this year. These are encouraging figures, demonstrating a breakthrough in electric vehicle infrastructure in a region where we aim to be the leader in fast charging stations. The new investments will further strengthen this process and give additional impact to the development of the EV industry.”

— Darius Maikštėnas, Ignitis CEO

Ignitis today: has deployed 1,286 EV charging points by the end of last quarter, Q1 2025, and delivered 4.6 GWh of electricity through its chargers across the Baltic states in 2024. The company says they’ve tripled the network in 2024 alone. Ignitis plans to reach 3,500 charging points deployed within the next three years.

Here’s what the network across Baltics looks like for now:

Also, Ignitis and AMPECO just announced their strategic partnership across the three countries to establish a unified EV charging network. It started with migrating 30k individual customers and 1k business clients over to the AMPECO platform within five months.
