Belgium's Tesla FSD tests surpass 2,000 km, testing fleet adds more units

EVwire brief: Tesla’s Supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) tests in Belgium have surpassed 2,000 kilometers (1,242 miles) on public roads. The update was shared by Flemish Mobility Minister Annick De Ridder on X.

The official stated that Tesla plans to complete 5,000 kilometers (3,100 miles) of testing in Belgium in order to map the differences between Flemish and Dutch road infrastructure ahead of potential homologation efforts.

She also revealed that Tesla has expanded its local testing fleet.

“And one more fun update: Tesla now has three cars in use to complete the test period as smoothly as possible!”

— Flemish Mobility Minister Annick De Ridder on X

Details:

Tesla is specifically testing FSD Supervised’s capability to interact with several uniquely Belgian roadway features, including:

  • Interaction with trams

  • Bicycle streets

  • Built-up area detection

  • Subsigns

  • Bicycle suggestion lanes

  • Temporary signaling at construction sites

Tesla’s FSD Supervised testing fleet in Belgium has grown to three vehicles

Context:

As previously reported on EVwire, Belgium recently approved Tesla’s request to begin supervised FSD testing on public roads, marking a step forward in the company’s push to validate the system across Europe.

Tesla’s FSD Supervised rollout in Europe has accelerated noticeably in recent months as more countries begin allowing public-road validation programs.

The Netherlands was the first European country to formally approve FSD Supervised, giving Tesla an important foothold in Europe.

Lithuania later followed with its own approval, while officials in Greece have publicly stated that they are working to expedite FSD Supervised’s rollout in the country.

Lithuania became the second European country to approve FSD Supervised (to the surprise of many)

Belgium’s rapid progress in its FSD Supervised testing now raises an interesting possibility: the country could potentially approve FSD Supervised before Greece. Now that would be interesting, if not humorous.

As an interesting note: Tesla stated in a media announcement that European drivers have logged more than 15 million kilometers (9.32 million miles) using FSD Supervised since the system’s rollout began in the Netherlands last month.
