The result places the Model Y ahead of both domestic EVs and traditional ICE models. It outpaced competitors across sedans, SUVs, and MPVs.
It was also the only premium-priced model in the top ten, standing out in a list dominated by lower-cost domestic EVs and affordable internal combustion vehicles.

Context:
The broader top ten reflects the diversity of China’s auto market. The Geely Galaxy Xingyuan ranked second with 30,953 units, followed by Nissan Sylphy at 28,093 units after a sharp jump in rankings.
The Li Auto i6 placed fourth with 24,198 units, while the BYD Yuan UP and Volkswagen Lavida placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
These were followed by the BYD Sealion 06 (18,237), Geely Boyue L (17,402), BYD Dolphin (17,291), and the Toyota Camry (17,069) to round out the top ten.
The Model Y is priced between approximately 263,500 and 313,500 yuan, significantly higher than most competing vehicles in the ranking.
Several top-selling models, such as the Geely Galaxy Xingyuan and the BYD Yuan UP, fall below the 100,000 yuan mark.
This pricing gap highlights Tesla’s positioning in China as a premium EV brand operating in a highly competitive, cost-sensitive market.
Tesla China sold 85,670 vehicles wholesale in March 2026, as per figures released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). This represents a 46.2% surge from February and an 8.7% increase year-over-year.
This performance lifted Tesla China’s Q1 2026 wholesale volume to 213,398 vehicles, up 23.5% compared to the same period last year.
