EVwire brief: Tesla is planning to more than double its service centers in Japan to over 30 locations in 2026 as its customer base expands.
According to Nikkei, Tesla currently operates 14 service centers in Japan, primarily in major cities, and they handle inspections, maintenance, and repairs. The upcoming expansion will focus on adding new locations near existing showrooms.

Tesla saw a surge of consumer interest in Japan in 2025
To accelerate the new service centers’ rollout, Tesla is repurposing existing maintenance facilities. In addition to company-operated sites, Tesla is also working with local partners, giving customers access to more than 50 service locations nationwide.
Tesla’s move comes after a sharp increase in vehicle sales in Japan. The company delivered roughly 10,600 vehicles in 2025, up about 90% year-over-year and surpassing its previous peak of 5,900 units in 2022.

Tesla Japan expanded its showroom network from around 10 locations to about 30
The growth has been supported by a shift toward in-person sales, with Tesla Japan expanding its showroom network from around 10 locations to about 30. Promotional pricing initiatives also contributed to increased demand for the company’s vehicles.
Under Japan’s Shaken (車検) system, new passenger cars are granted a three-year validity period for their first inspection. After this period, vehicles must undergo mandatory inspections every two years.

FSD (Supervised) is currently being tested in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo
With more Teslas now entering the market, the company is expecting a sharp rise in service demand in the coming years.
A further rise in consumer interest is also expected once Tesla rolls out FSD (Supervised), which is currently being tested in Tokyo. Tesla Japan expects to roll out FSD (Supervised) to Japan sometime this 2026.
Interestingly enough, reports indicate that a significant portion of Tesla Japan’s workforce is relatively new, with 60% of the company’s domestic employees having been employed for less than six months.
