EVWire brief: 32,738 EVs were sold in the United Kingdom in May 2025, growing 25.8% Year-over-Year (YoY), and achieving 21.8% market share in the overall 150,070 cars sold (+1.6% YoY). In other words, every 5th (well, every 4.6th) car sold in the UK in May was fully electric.
Same time last year: The EV market share in May this year is a significant jump from May 2024 going 17.6%→21.8%.
So far this year: looking at year-to-date (YTD) numbers Jan-May, United Kingdom has seen 177,487 new EV registrations this year, which is 33.4% more than Jan-May 2024 with 133,062 EV sales. And the EV market share so far this year is 20.9%, significantly higher than 16.1% same time last year.

When it comes to light commercial vehicles, BEVs <3.5T recorded a 53.7% growth to 1,655 new registrations, making up 7.2% of all light commercial vehicle sales, marking a solid jump over 4.2% in May 2024. So far this year, 9,756 of these <3.5T BEVs have been registered, up 41.9% and making up 7.6% across powertrains.
