Voltpost deploys their first-ever public lamppost EV charger, in Oak Park, Illinois

EVWire brief: Voltpost launched its first-ever public lamppost EV charger in Oak Park, Illinois, partnering with the Park District of Oak Park and the ComEd utility company. Voltpost retrofits lampposts into a modular and upgradable Level 2 EV charging platform powered by a mobile app.

Context: Voltpost says its charger design can be installed “in minutes”, right on an existing public or privately owned lamppost — requires no construction or trenching, system can host 2 or 4 chargers and is set with 5G WiFi, grid and multi-modal services.

It also features a retractable cable, and the operator can set pricing themselves. For the curious — here are the instructions Voltpost shares on how to activate the charger from the user side (Voltpost app, scan QR code, ChargePlug starts blinking etc).

Quotes:

❝

“The deployment of a Voltpost charger in Oak Park will expand EV charging access for the local community and help catalyze the transition to sustainable transportation. This deployment builds upon our ongoing projects in New York and Michigan, and marks a step forward in our mission to scale the Voltpost platform nationwide. We are grateful to our partners at the Park District of Oak Park and ComEd for collaborating with us to make equitable EV charging infrastructure available for the residents of Oak Park.”

— Jeffrey Prosserman, Voltpost CEO and Co-Founder

In January this year, Voltpost received $2.6M in grants from US Joint Office of Energy and Transportation's Communities Taking Charge Accelerator program to deploy lamppost-based EV chargers in communities across the US. It is also one of the companies involved in the San Francisco Curbside EV Charging Pilot program.
