EVwire brief: MG is preparing a play for Europe's small EV crowd, with a compact electric hatchback concept due to break cover at July's Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK.
A production version is slated to reach buyers in 2027 with the Volkswagen ID. Polo squarely in its sights. MG hasn't attached an official name to the car yet, though the smart money in automotive media is on MG2 EV.
MG only shared a couple of teasers for the vehicle, but based on the photos, it seems like the upcoming B-segment EV will feature a rounded front end. It seems like MG is leaning more into cute than aggressive for this EV’s front end.

Based on this image, MG’s B-segment EV will have a fairly small hood, too
Few corners of the European car market matter more than the B-segment, and few are harder to crack. The push toward smaller, more affordable EVs has become an industry-wide priority as brands chase buyers who found the first wave of electric cars too expensive.
The Volkswagen ID. Polo carries one of the most storied nameplates in the class into the electric era. The German automaker notes that the ID. Polo will come with about 280 miles of range per charge, and fast charging from from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes with up to 105 kW DC.

Context:
The small-car project is the latest move in a broader European offensive from the SAIC Motor-owned brand, which recently committed to manufacturing cars on European soil.
Given how aggressively MG has priced its EVs so far, I'd expect the newcomer's sharpest weapon against the ID. Polo to be its price tag. VW has not announced the price of the ID. Polo, but expectations are high that it would likely be priced around €25,000 (around $28,900).

The battle of small EV hatchbacks is heating up, and that’s a perfectly good thing
Goodwood attendees will get a second MG reveal as well: a separate design study meant to telegraph where the brand's styling, and its next wave of EVs, is headed.
