Monta launches EV charging platform in Canada with Sobeys

EVwire brief: Monta has officially entered the Canadian market, naming Sobeys as its flagship customer. The rollout marks Monta’s first major deployment in Canada and signals growing momentum for software-enabled EV charging infrastructure across retail locations nationwide.

Monta’s entry into the Canadian market marks an important step in the company’s international expansion and strengthens its ability to support EV charging deployments across retail and commercial locations nationwide.

As Monta’s flagship Canadian customer, Sobeys is helping demonstrate how grocery chains can integrate EV charging into everyday customer experiences while using software platforms to manage operations efficiently at scale.

Retail charging at grocery locations offers several advantages:

  • Convenient charging during routine errands

  • Longer customer dwell time in stores

  • Expanded access to public charging infrastructure

Through this deployment, Sobeys becomes an early adopter of software-managed EV charging within Canada’s grocery sector.

Monta’s platform enables infrastructure operators, site hosts, and commercial partners to centrally manage charging networks with tools for:

  • Charger monitoring and control

  • Network operations management

  • Flexible site-level configuration

As EV adoption continues to grow across Canada, platforms like Monta’s are becoming increasingly important for scaling charging infrastructure efficiently and reliably.

More broadly, retail locations are emerging as strategic destinations for public charging across North America. Integrating chargers into grocery networks supports drivers during everyday trips while reinforcing retailers’ roles within the evolving electric mobility ecosystem.
