The Polestar 4 coupe SUV worked, so why not a full SUV form factor?

Polestar 4 SUV confirmed, arrives September 2 with up to 391 miles WLTP range

EVwire brief: Polestar has confirmed a new Polestar 4 SUV variant, with sales starting September 2 across most of its markets. The SUV carries over the Polestar 4 coupé's design, performance, and sustainability credentials while adding cargo space and everyday versatility.

Both the SUV and the latest coupé get a retuned chassis for sharper handling, and the shared 400V architecture delivers up to 630 km (391 miles) of WLTP range in rear-motor (single-motor) trims and up to 544 hp in dual-motor versions. Polestar builds the SUV in Busan, South Korea, alongside the coupé.

❝

“Polestar 4 has quickly established itself as a favourite among our customers, and we've seen strong demand from drivers who want distinctive design and performance combined with great practicality. With Polestar 4 SUV, we're building on that success by offering even more versatility.[…] This is a car I've been looking forward to sharing with the world.”

— Michael Lohscheller, CEO at Polestar

Our take on the Polestar 4 SUV. Profile view.

The Polestar 4 SUV sits alongside the existing Polestar 4 coupé, which in US spec makes 268 hp (Single motor) or 536 hp (Dual motor) from a 100 kWh pack good for around 310 miles on the EPA cycle, a different, generally more conservative test than the WLTP figures Polestar is quoting for the SUV.

It remains to be seen if the Polestar 4 coupe’s most talked-about quirk will carry over to the SUV variant. The Polestar 4 coupe features no rear window, replaced by a roof-mounted camera feeding a digital rearview mirror.

Context:

The Polestar 4 SUV will likely not be launching in the United States. In June, the US Commerce Department finalized a Connected Vehicle Rule barring Polestar, majority-owned by China's Geely, from selling 2027 model-year vehicles in the US, regardless of where the cars are actually built (the Polestar 4 is assembled in South Korea, not China).

That ban likely rules the US out for the new SUV the same way it already has for next year's Polestar 4 coupé.
