Rocsys unveils multi-bay hands-free robotaxi charging system, raises $13M

EVwire brief: Rocsys has unveiled the Rocsys M1, a hands-free charging system designed to serve multiple bays simultaneously for robotaxi fleets. The company also announced a $13 million Series A extension to support its expansion.

The M1 is currently in pilot deployment, with large-scale rollout planned for 2027 across North America and Europe.

Key details include:

  • Multi-bay hands-free charging system capable of serving up to 10 vehicles with a single unit

  • Overhead rail-mounted robotic arm compatible with mixed EV fleets and all charger types

  • Up to 75% productivity increase from existing staff and up to $1.7 million in annual savings at scale

  • 99.9%+ plug-in success rate enabled by AI-powered computer vision and motion intelligence

The company also raised $13 million in Series A extension funding, led by Capricorn Partners with participation from Scania Invest, Forward. One, SEB Greentech Venture Capital, and Graduate Ventures, bringing total funding to $56 million.

Here’s how the M1 works:

Context:

Since robotaxis are all-electric and operate autonomously, charging their batteries could become a notable bottleneck for operators. With this in mind, automated solutions for charging robotaxis make perfect sense.

The M1 is part of Rocsys’ broader platform designed to enable fully autonomous depot operations. The platform integrates hardware, software, and services including APIs, remote monitoring, and operational management tools.

As noted by Rocsys in a press release, the M1 is built on a platform proven in active port operations and other high-duty environments. It is designed to function across varying lighting conditions, weather environments, and vehicle positioning scenarios.

Rocsys said the platform has been validated through a signed major robotaxi deal and is intended to scale to thousands of charging bays over the next five years.

A missing link in the robotaxi segment

Crijn Bouman, CEO and Co-Founder of Rocsys, stated that automated charging is the missing link for robotaxis.

❝

“Autonomous vehicles are growing rapidly, and infrastructure must keep pace. Without hands-free operations, autonomy stops at the depot… This is the missing link for robotaxi operators to move from pilots to global deployment.”

—Crijn Bouman, CEO and Co-Founder of Rocsys

In a comment to Axios, Bouman noted that the hands-free nature of the M1 means that workers could do other jobs, like cleaning and inspection, while robotaxis are charging. In the long term, however, the CEO stated that these activities will likely be automated as well.

Rocsys’ solution has received support from the industry. Terrawatt Infrastructure co-founder and CEO Neha Palmer shared this comment:

❝

“It is pretty amazing. You see these vehicles out there driving themselves, and then they come into the depot, and you have a human charging them, plugging them in. The technology is there. It's not very complicated to open the flap and then plug it in. And so certainly that will be something that you will see pretty ubiquitous, I think, fairly soon.”

—Neha Palmer, co-founder and CEO of Terrawatt Infrastructure
