Tesla and Uber partner to give drivers $2,000 to switch to Tesla

...and they split the cost.

Interesting… are you new here? The article is all free below, but since it seems you haven’t signed up for our newsletters yet, I’ll tell you this first: Drop your email here so you won’t miss out on the next issue of our EV industry newsletter:

Tesla just launched a collaboration with Uber, this time to give eligible Model 3 & Y buyers:

$1,000 in Tesla Credits upon taking delivery +
$1,000 in cash from Uber after completing 100 trips.

The Tesla Credits can be used toward Supercharging, a new Tesla vehicle, service appointments or select Tesla Shop or upgrade purchases. Just for your info, Tesla Tequila is excluded though.

The incentive is available after verifying eligibility with Uber through their system, find the button on Tesla’s fresh tesla.com/uber website (if the link there gives a 404 error, type it in — it exists, Tesla just has some weird bug on this web page when directed to)

The 100 trips need to be completed before February 15, 2025 and the deal is not available for used vehicles. Interestingly the offer is stackable with Tesla Military Purchase Program, but is not stackable with other Tesla promotions, including its Refer and Earn Program.

The site does not mention any region specifically so we’ll assume it’s available worldwide.

This is also not the first time Tesla partners with Uber — just this September, the two companies officially launched Uber integration for easier navigation and convenience for drivers on its platform. And back in January this year, Axios reported that Uber is offering drivers incentives of up to $2,000 on its side for the Model 3 & Y.

Uber’s road to fully electric rides

We’ve reported on Uber’s EV direction for a while now, and the incentives have worked — Uber now has 182,000 EVs on its platform today.

Just recently, Uber launched a few new incentives in the UK:

  • All-electric Uber green: used to have hybrids, now only all-electrics.

  • EV Preference: set the preference to get an EV every time,

  • EV Pop-Ups: you might end up riding in a Lotus Eletre in London or a Rivian R1 in LA, Miami and Dallas.

  • Drivers get an AI Assistant for EV questions;

  • EV mentorship program connecting experienced EV drivers to drivers new to EVs;

  • Free Octopus chargers (worth ~£1,000 each), co-funded by BYD and Octopus Energy, for 1,000 Uber drivers in the UK.
