Tesla drops Model Y price to record low in Sweden, rolls out 0% financing in Denmark, while sales soar

EVwire brief: Tesla is ramping up its aggressive sales initiatives across Europe, using price cuts and zero-interest financing to accelerate demand for the Model Y and Model 3. The initiative follows Tesla’s strong regional sales rebound in March.

In Sweden, Tesla deepened its push by cutting the price of the Tesla Model Y to a record low. The base rear-wheel-drive variant now starts at SEK 449,900 (around $49,500) after a SEK 50,000 ($5,300) “Tesla bonus.”

This makes the base Model Y roughly the same price as the entry-level Tesla Model 3. The offer runs through the end of Q2 2026, and is paired with zero-interest financing. Thanks to these, the base Model Y could also be covered by Sweden’s new electric car premium for low-income households, which can provide up to ($6,900) in subsidies.

The base Tesla Model Y RWD is now as affordable as the entry-level Model 3 in Sweden

While Tesla saw challenges in Sweden last year, the company has seen a strong rebound this 2026 so far. In March alone, Tesla Sweden reported 1,784 sales and a 6.7% market share, growing by 144% year over year. The Model Y also became the country’s most-registered vehicle overall.

Over in Denmark, Tesla is taking a financing-led approach. As highlighted by Tesla Denmark Country Lead for Sales and Delivery Martin Niebuhr, the company launched a campaign offering 0% interest for up to eight years on selected Model 3 and Model Y units.

Martin framed the move around the Easter time, with something in Danish like ‘quack quack quack, the interest is gone’, which obviously rhymes in the local language, not like our try here:

Under the promotion, a Tesla Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive would be priced at DKK 269,990 (around $42,000), with monthly payments starting at just about DKK 2,378 (about $370). The promotion targets spring demand and applies to orders placed from April 1, with deliveries completed by June 30.

Martin Niebuhr of Tesla Denmark

Tesla’s focus on the Model Y across Sweden and Denmark aligns with its production footprint in Europe. Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg is the company’s primary European production hub and is responsible for building the Model Y, including the lower-cost rear-wheel-drive variant now being promoted.

According to Giga Berlin Plant Manager André Thierig, the facility produced “well over 200,000” Model Y units in 2025. However, Tesla has stated in its Q4 and full-year 2025 update letter that the plant’s installed capacity exceeds 375,000 units annually, indicating significant unused headroom.

Giga Berlin has the capacity to produce 375,000 Model Ys per year

That gap between Giga Berlin’s current output and maximum capacity could explain Tesla’s aggressive pricing and financing strategy in the region. By pushing Model Y demand through incentives, Tesla can better utilize Giga Berlin’s production lines while adopting a more aggressive stance in Europe’s competitive EV segment.

It's a strong turnaround from the challenges Tesla faced last year.
