EVwire brief: Tesla has set up its first Folding Unit (FU) Superchargers in Europe, the company's official charging team confirmed on X.
Tesla Charging noted that the units arrive "with telescopic light poles for easy transportation and fast on-site deployment." The company, however, did not disclose where Europe’s first FU Supercharger is being set up.
Here's Tesla Charging's update on X:
Tesla introduced the Folding Unit Superchargers in late March as a pre-assembled charging solution designed to cut costs by 20% or more and deploy about twice as fast as conventional builds.
Each unit packs eight charging posts built around V4 Supercharger cabinets capable of up to 500 kW, ships in a folded configuration, and unfolds on site, allowing Tesla to haul up to 16 posts per truck instead of 12.

The FU setup allows up to 16 Tesla Supercharger stalls to be shipped per truck
Context:
In a post on X, Tesla Senior Director of Charging Max de Zegher stated that most of the FU Superchargers’ savings come from reduced civil, electrical, and logistics costs. By pre-assembling more of the system off-site, Tesla minimizes the work required in the field, eliminating steps like DC busbar connections and the need for Tesla service technicians during commissioning.
The folding design also marks an early version of the hardware. De Zegher noted at the time that the current units represent a Rev1 design, with a Rev3 iteration planned for Q2 2026.
The Folding Unit Superchargers build on the company’s prefabrication strategy that Tesla has been refining since April 2021, when the first prefab Supercharger pilots were spotted in Utah. Prefabricated builds were scaling globally by early 2022 and have since served as the platform for Tesla's Mobile Superchargers, which are deployed during peak holiday periods and natural disasters.
