EVwire brief: Volvo Cars announced that fully electric Volvo drivers in Europe will gain access to more than 20,000 Tesla Supercharger stalls beginning in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The expansion will allow Volvo EV owners to access Tesla Superchargers across 29 European countries directly through the Volvo Cars app. This significantly broadens the company’s fast-charging ecosystem in major markets such as Germany, France, and Norway.
“Adding Tesla Superchargers in Europe means they now have even easier access to one of the most recognized fast charging networks. As we accelerate towards full electrification, our goal is to make charging simple and effortless, through a seamless ecosystem.”
Volvo also confirmed plans to transition selected future EV models in Japan and South Korea to the North American Charging System (NACS/SAE J3400) by 2029, opening future access to Tesla’s Supercharger network in those Asia-Pacific markets as well.

Context:
Volvo stated that its EV drivers already have access to more than three million charging points globally through the Volvo Cars app, including 120,000 charging points in North America and more than 1.2 million charging points across Europe.
While Tesla initially developed the Supercharger ecosystem as a largely closed network for Tesla owners, the company has increasingly opened access to other automakers globally as charging infrastructure becomes a larger standalone business opportunity.
In 2023, Tesla announced that Volvo had adopted NACS for its electric vehicles, with vehicles gaining access to the Supercharger network in 2024 through an adapter.

Volvo framed its adoption of the Supercharger network in Europe as part of a broader effort to simplify public charging and improve standardization across markets.
“Volvo Cars’ approach to charging is to make life with electric cars even easier than it is today by making public charging more unified and reliable around the world,” the company stated in its release.
The expanded access will apply to several of Volvo’s fully electric models, including the EX30, EX40, EC40, EX60, EX90, and ES90.
