EVwire brief: MG launched the 07 at the Chengdu Auto Show on Friday, pricing its new flagship sedan from 105,900 yuan (US$15,750) to 156,900 yuan (US$23,340) across seven variants. Every single one undercuts the pre-sale range MG had set in late July.
The demand was instant. The car crossed 10,000 firm orders in 1 minute and 57 seconds once sales went live Friday evening, smashing MG's own MG4 record of 39 minutes. Trade-in buyers get an extra 3,000-yuan (US$446) discount.
Unlike refundable reservations, firm orders lock in the purchase. Pre-orders reached 45,000 on the first day. By Saturday, the total was 59,000.

The 07 is a fastback liftback with four frameless doors, available as BEV or plug-in hybrid. The top BEV rides on 800V architecture with 5C charging and claims 845 km (525 mi) of CLTC range from a 91 kWh CATL cell.
MG packed in LiDAR, Momenta's R7 driving system, and a 21-speaker cabin. The PHEV stretches combined range to 1,745 km (1,084 mi). Deliveries of the MG 07 BEV 650 start before the end of August. The 845-km version follows in October.

MG tripled its retail footprint to about 600 sales points ahead of the 07's launch to avoid the delivery bottlenecks that plagued the MG4.
Context:
The pricing is the real story here. MG opened pre-sales on July 29 at 125,900 (US$18,730) to 165,900 (US$24,680) yuan, and then undercut its own window by up to 20,000 (US$3,000) yuan at launch.
More than 45% of orders went to the 845-km variant, a share MG had not anticipated. The company responded by requesting CATL spin up two extra cell-assembly lines before the first pre-order wave had even fully landed.
MG also tripled its retail footprint ahead of the launch. The network grew from fewer than 200 sales points to about 600 over the past twelve months, with temporary pop-up locations filling gaps. General manager Chen Cui credited the push to lessons from the MG4 launch, when thin dealer coverage left buyers waiting months for their cars.
The 07 marks MG's debut of LiDAR hardware and Momenta's R7 driving system, which EVwire covered when pre-sale pricing was first announced in July. The 07 lands in one of China's most contested sedan segments, up against the BYD Seal 07 DM-i and Lynk & Co 07 EM-P.
