EVwire brief: BYD has released official camouflage photos of the first D-class flagship sedan in its Dynasty lineup, the company's latest step into the premium market.
Lu Tian, general manager of the sales division for BYD's Dynasty lineup, shared the camouflaged images on Monday.
BYD began soliciting names from its user community last week, and after several rounds of screening, six finalists reached the last round, with "Dahan" holding an overwhelming lead.

The new flagship’s name translates to “Great Han,” which makes sense since the Han is the current flagship sedan of the brand’s Dynasty lineup
The naming follows BYD's house pattern. Han is the current flagship sedan of the Dynasty lineup and Tang its flagship SUV, so the larger, more premium versions arrive as the Dahan and the Datang. Technical details of the new flagship sedan are unreleased for now.
The new sedan will sit alongside the upcoming Datang SUV, the Dynasty lineup's first D-class flagship SUV, which launches in Xi'an in mid-June.

The Dahan’s stablemate, the Datang SUV, features megawatt flash charging, a 1,000-volt architecture, and 590 miles of range
The Datang offers a preview of how far BYD is pushing the segment. The SUV began pre-sales in late April from 250,000 yuan ($36,970) to 320,000 yuan (about $47,300) for the top configuration, and the response was strong, with more than 30,000 orders in the first 24 hours and over 100,000 pre-orders in the first two weeks.
On specs, the Datang runs BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and a 1,000-volt architecture with megawatt flash charging, and its pure-electric version claims a record 950 km (590 miles) of range. Expectations are high that the flagship sedan will feature comparable specs to its SUV stablemate.

The Dahan is also expected to be equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery
Context:
The Dahan’s impending rollout lands as BYD's sales steady after a rough stretch. The company sold 383,453 new energy vehicles on a wholesale basis in May, up 0.26% year-on-year, which BYD says ended an eight-month run of declining sales.
Overseas demand did the heavy lifting for BYD’s numbers. Exports hit a record 160,644 units in May, a jump of 80.40% year-on-year. BYD also says the capacity bottleneck from switching to the second-generation Blade Battery is easing as upgraded production lines come online.
