EVwire brief: BYD is expanding its Flash Charging network through a major new partnership with Car Inc, one of China’s largest rental fleet operators.
The agreement includes installation of BYD Flash Charging stations at eligible Car Inc locations across China as part of the automaker’s broader “Flash Charging China” strategy.
Alongside the charging rollout, Car Inc also signed a 100,000-vehicle procurement agreement with BYD.

Car Inc purchased nearly 30,000 BYD vehicles last year
BYD has stated that it plans to build 20,000 Flash Charging stations nationwide by the end of 2026 as it pushes rapid charging as a key differentiator in China’s EV market.
BYD’s Flash Charging features a maximum single-gun charging power of 1,500 kW, which means that compatible vehicles can charge from 10% to 70% in just about five minutes.
BYD demonstrated the system in this video:
Context:
Car Inc began electrifying its fleet in 2025 through an earlier pilot involving 3,000 BYD Qin Plus DM-i sedans.
The companies later formalized a strategic partnership, with Car Inc purchasing nearly 30,000 BYD vehicles last year.
The expanded agreement significantly increases BYD’s footprint in China’s mobility services sector, where rental fleets can expose large numbers of drivers to the automaker’s vehicles and charging ecosystem.
Car Inc operates thousands of rental locations across China, potentially giving BYD broad physical coverage for future Flash Charging deployment.

BYD’s Flash Charging system in focus
On March 5, BYD unveiled its second-generation Blade Battery alongside what it described as the world’s highest-power mass-produced Flash Charger.
BYD said vehicles equipped with the latest battery and charging platform can charge from 10% to 97% in approximately nine minutes.
The company also claimed charging sessions (20%-97%) would still take only about 12 minutes in extreme cold conditions of minus 30 degrees Celsius.
Here’s that demonstration:
The automaker believes that level of charging performance could significantly change the rental experience for drivers by reducing charging stops to only a few minutes during longer trips.
BYD is also pairing the charging rollout with an extended commercial vehicle after-sales policy that includes a six-year or 600,000-kilometer warranty covering the battery, motor, and electronic control systems.
