This EV charging station shows you the FIFA World Cup scores live, by Electra | VIDEO

EVwire brief: Electra, the large fast charging point operator in Europe, is now showing FIFA World Cup 2026 soccer tournament scores right on the LED canopies of its charging stations:

The LED strips that outline the Electraline canopy โ€” the lit arch that arcs over each Electra station โ€” display the running match score, both teams' flags, and the fixture date.

Article continues below โ€” EVwire has partnered with the nonprofit ChesedChicago:

They run a charity EV raffle. We love it because it means more EVs on the road and great impact for communities. Go win your dream EV (US only, until July 13th)

Electra says it operates in seven of the nations competing this summer, and it has paired the displays with a promo: two months free for new Electra+ Smart subscribers, running through July 19, the day of the final.

โ

And at Electra, we celebrate it as we know how: by recharging.

Julien Belliato, co-founder and deputy CEO of operations at Electra

The idea is simple: glance up at the canopy while you charge and you have the score. The info is running on what Electra calls its connected architecture, the Electraline. Usually, youโ€™d see on the screens whether the charging station is empty, how many kW are available, or what % of battery has been filled up for any current EVs charging.

Belliato also points out that the LED panels draw very little power, which matters for a company whose whole pitch is clean energy.

Hereโ€™s another look at the Electraline system that the company is now deploying across Europe, in a bit of a different format:

Context:

Electra is one of Europe's faster-growing fast-charging operators. French-founded, it now runs around 644 stations and more than 4,000 ultra-fast charging points across 10 European countries. It is the second-largest network in France, the leader in Belgium, and earlier this year it became Uber's European charging partner. The company has said it expects to turn its first profit in 2026.

There is a sales hook attached. New Electra+ Smart subscribers (the โ‚ฌ4.99/month plan) get two months free through July 19, and Belliato's post adds a bonus: if your team goes all the way and wins, Electra says it will cover you through December 31.

Weโ€™ve long said that once EV fast charging market becomes saturated, as it is in large parts of Europe these days already, the companies with the best differentiation game wins. This sure is one way to do it.

Oh and did we mentionโ€ฆ you can also play rock-paper-scissors with these?

Scrutinize the marketing math all you like; "Europe got fooled" is a weak, weak claim.
