EVwire brief: Nuro has been meeting with police departments in Mountain View, Palo Alto and Los Altos, California, as it prepares to launch its robotaxi program with Uber and Lucid.
The Mountain View-based autonomous driving company shared the update on LinkedIn on Tuesday. The meetings come as the three partners close in on their San Francisco Bay Area launch, which they have targeted for later this year.
Nuro thanked the three departments in its post:
“We are proud and grateful to collaborate closely with our community to prepare for the launch of our robotaxi program with Uber and Lucid Motors. Thank you, Mountain View Police Department, Los Altos Police Department, and Palo Alto Police Dept for the opportunity to share knowledge, discuss safety, and work together toward the future of autonomous mobility.”

Context:
The police briefings cap a busy few weeks for the Lucid, Nuro and Uber program. Nuro said on October 8 that the robotaxi had entered production validation over the summer, adding rider-facing features and streamlined manufacturing processes, with driverless testing coming soon.
The program itself has grown considerably since Uber first committed in July 2025 to deploying at least 20,000 Lucid Gravity robotaxis running the Nuro Driver. Earlier this year, Uber raised its total investment in Lucid to $500 million and lifted its commitment to at least 35,000 Lucid vehicles, including Lucid's upcoming Midsize models. The partners have since named Houston as their second market, with service expected by mid-2027.
