Porsche reportedly plans to end Taycan production by 2030, sales continue to decline

A decade is a good run. Just not the one Porsche had in mind.

Porsche reportedly plans to end Taycan production by 2030, sales continue to decline

EVwire brief: Porsche is reportedly planning to end production of the battery-electric Taycan by 2030 at the latest, potentially giving its first dedicated electric sports car a production run of about a decade as demand continues to weaken.

Taycan deliveries have fallen sharply from their 2023 peak. Porsche delivered nearly 41,000 units in 2023, compared with around 16,000 last year. The decline has continued into 2026, with just over 6,000 Taycans delivered during the first half of the year.

The report from WirtschaftsWoche, citing company insiders, said production has been repeatedly halted in recent months because of weak demand. Taycan production at Porsche's Stuttgart headquarters is reportedly significantly underutilized as a result.

Porsche had previously considered moving Taycan production to Leipzig, but that option is reportedly no longer being pursued. Instead, Porsche has reached an agreement with its works council to discontinue the model by 2030, although the agreement has reportedly not yet been formally documented.

Porsche has not confirmed the reported production timeline. CEO Michael Leiters said in late July that the company had no plans to discontinue the Taycan immediately and would continue monitoring demand.

The Taycan came in several variants, such as the adventure-focused Cross Turismo, pictured here.

Context:

The Taycan entered production in 2019 as Porsche's first mass-produced battery-electric model and became one of the most important early tests of how the sports-car brand's customers would respond to an EV. The reported production end would therefore come after roughly 10 years on the market.

Porsche has continued updating the model despite its declining sales. The 2027 Taycan remains available as a sports sedan, Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo, with 18 variants producing between 300 and 760 kW. Prices range from €102,600 to €241,100. The latest model year also adds an optional virtual gearbox that simulates gear changes with noticeable jolts. Porsche charges around €1,000 for the feature.
