EVwire brief: Claire McDonough will step down as Rivian’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on October 30, 2026, to join GE Vernova, the energy technology company spun off from General Electric. She will join GE Vernova in November 2026 and fully transition into the CFO role on January 1, 2027.
Derek Mulvey, Rivian's Vice President of Finance, will serve as interim CFO while the company conducts a search for a permanent successor. Mulvey joined Rivian in 2021 and previously worked at J.P. Morgan.
"Serving as Rivian’s CFO alongside RJ and this exceptional team has been the highlight of my career. I am tremendously proud of everything we have accomplished together—from building and scaling the business with the launch of R1 and our commercial van to establishing the financial and operational foundation that will propel the company through the ramp of R2 and beyond. As I step away for a new opportunity and to be closer to my family on the East Coast, I do so with absolute confidence in Rivian’s trajectory, mission, and leadership team."

Before Rivian, McDonough spent about six and a half years at J.P. Morgan, rising to Managing Director and Co-head of Disruptive Commerce. She also serves on the boards of AutoZone and the Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies joint venture.
