Rivian R2 configurator goes live ahead of schedule and at $57,990 price

EVwire brief: Rivian has officially launched the public configurator for the R2, allowing reservation holders and prospective buyers to begin building their vehicle on the company's website.

The launch arrived ahead of Rivian's own revised timeline. After initially targeting June for configurator access, the tool went live today, just a day after a "Design Yours" button briefly appeared on Rivian's website.

Rivian announced the launch on X:

Gotta admit, Rivian really got us with this one:

Underpromise and overdeliver, configurator launch edition

Also a fun tidbit from Rivian’s Chief Software Officer Wassym Bensaid: The R2 configurator is powered by Unreal Engine.

Context:

At launch, only the R2 Performance with Launch Package is available to order, priced at $57,990. The configurator also previews the broader R2 lineup:

  • R2 Premium at $53,990, expected in late 2026

  • Standard Long Range at $48,490, arriving in 2027

The R2 Performance is a dual-motor all-wheel-drive SUV producing 656 horsepower and an EPA-estimated range of up to 330 miles. It also features a 0-60 mph time of 3.6 seconds.

Rivian’s R2 configurator features a 3D viewer so you can (really) explore the vehicle

Configurable options include exterior colors, with Esker Silver being the default option. Glacier White costs an extra $1,000, while Midnight, Catalina Cove, Half Moon Grey, and Launch Green cost $2,000.

Borealis and Forest Green are expected to be available next year.

Launch Green is a $2,000 paint option

The R2 Performance comes with 21" Liquid Tungsten All-Season wheels, though customers can also pay an extra $1,000 for 20" Black Sand All-Terrain wheels.

Only the Black Crater Signature interior is available for now, though a $1,000 Coastal Cloud interior option is expected in late 2026.

When optioned with premium paint and wheels, the R2 passes the $60,000 barrier

The Launch Package includes Rivian's Autonomy+ hands-free driving system, a 4,400-pound tow package, and a Rivian Green anodized aluminum key fob.

After the Launch Edition rollout, Autonomy+ will be available at $49.99 per month or $2,500 as a one-time purchase.

The R2’s Catalina Cove color also costs $2,000 extra

Rivian prepares for scaled R2 production and deliveries

Rivian began volume saleable production of the R2 on April 22 at its Normal, Illinois manufacturing facility.

Initial vehicles are currently being delivered internally to employees before broader customer deliveries begin, which Rivian expects by the end of spring.

Rivian also plans to begin demo drives at select Rivian Spaces around July while continuing a multi-city R2 viewing tour across the United States.
