Tesla is about to start deliveries of the 3-phase Powerwall 3P in Europe this week

EVwire brief: Chris Penders, Head of Sales EMEA for Residential Energy at Tesla, posted a cryptic announcement on LinkedIn, teasing a “Big Week! 🔋 🔋 🔋 P” alongside an image of a Powerwall 3 unit.

The post itself offers no details, but Pender’s use of three battery emojis and the letter “P” was interpreted by users as a teaser that a 3-phase Powerwall 3 may start shipping in Europe this week.

Here’s Chris’ post on LinkedIn:

Context:

Tesla has already launched the Powerwall 3 across parts of Europe, including markets like the UK and Germany. However, the home battery’s current version features a single-phase 11.5 kW inverter, reflecting its original design for the U.S. market. That creates limitations in Europe, where residential electrical systems are commonly built on three-phase power.

In February, Tesla announced the three-phase Powerwall 3 is coming to Europe and set up ordering pages in several European countries.

In practical terms, three-phase electricity distributes load across three separate currents instead of one. This setup is standard in many European countries because it supports higher power demand more efficiently, particularly for larger homes, heat pumps, and solar installations.

A single-phase battery system can still function in this environment, but it often requires multiple units or more complex installation setups to balance loads properly. This mismatch has made the Powerwall 3 feel somewhat constrained in Europe despite consumer demand.

The three-phase Powerwall 3 was initially announced for Germany back in February

A native 3-phase Powerwall could unlock broader adoption across Europe

Tesla Germany’s official webpage for the Powerwall 3 currently states that the three-phase version of the home battery unit is “available soon” (Source)

A three-phase Powerwall 3 would directly address these limitations. By making the Powerwall 3 three-phase, Tesla could:

  • Provide balanced power across all phases from a single unit

  • Simplify installation compared to multi-unit setups

  • Align with standard residential electrical systems in Europe

Early signals from consumers suggest that Tesla may already be setting things in motion (thanks, @KaiWedekind!). One user noted in our post on X:

❝

“I ordered the Powerwall 3P for my home two weeks ago. My local Tesla partner told me that the first shipping container of Powerwalls 3P is arriving this week. Hope I get one of the first ones. I live in Germany.”

That didn't take too long at all.
