EVwire brief: GO Rentals New Zealand announced a NZ$4 million investment in 51 new Tesla Model Y Long Range vehicles, more than doubling its existing fleet. Tesla API and Tesla for Business support the company’s operations.
With its expansion, GO Rentals will become New Zealand’s largest Tesla rental operator.

The company initially tested multiple EV brands before standardizing on Tesla, citing consistency and reliability across its national network.
In a video posted on the official Tesla Australia and New Zealand X account, GO Rentals CFO Teegan Huynh stated that Tesla was the only one that held up against “all the rigor of a national rental network.”
A key factor in GO Rentals’ decision has been Tesla’s integrated fleet tools. The company has fully integrated Tesla’s API and Tesla for Business platform into its operations, allowing real-time monitoring of vehicle data.
“Things like the kilometers and the fuel level, and even tire pressures feed straight back into our system. It’s a game changer.”
This level of integration reduces operational complexity and improves fleet visibility, particularly for a distributed rental network.
Tesla for Business also enables remote management functions such as charging control, diagnostics, and service coordination, reducing the need for manual intervention.

Tesla for Business is aggressively growing in Australia and New Zealand, even working with large businesses like FleetPartners for industry events.
GO Rentals has stated that the company has seen significant cost advantages compared to internal combustion vehicles.
Maintenance requirements have also been minimal. The company reported no oil changes, limited brake wear, and very few routine replacements across its Tesla fleet over the years.
“Compared to our traditional ICE vehicle, a Tesla vehicle, to maintain and run, the cost difference was around 70%, which is staggering.”
These factors contribute to higher uptime and lower total cost of ownership, which are critical for rental fleet economics.
GO Rentals noted increasing customer interest in EV rentals, particularly for long-distance travel across New Zealand.
With over 600 km of range, the Model Y Long Range supports intercity routes while reducing reliance on fuel infrastructure.
GO Rentals’ recent announcement also comes amidst the ramp of Tesla for Business in Australia and New Zealand.
