Industry watcher Roland Pircher noted that Tesla Germany’s YTD numbers already exceed the company’s full-year 2025 German sales volume by roughly 9%.
Context:
Germany remains Europe's largest automotive market, making KBA registration data one of the most closely watched indicators of EV demand across the region.
The May result continued Tesla's improving momentum in Germany. Pircher noted that May represented Tesla's second-best May on record in the country and its strongest quarter-to-date performance after two months since the first quarter of 2024.

Tesla was not the only EV manufacturer posting strong growth. Chinese automaker BYD registered 6,168 vehicles in May, up 232% year-over-year, while year-to-date registrations reached 19,993 units. These numbers, however, include BYD’s PHEV offerings.
The broader German market remained stable in May, with total passenger vehicle registrations increasing 0.1% year-over-year to 239,448 units. Battery-electric vehicles continued gaining share, accounting for roughly one in four new vehicle registrations during the month.
