EVwire brief: Waymo has started fully autonomous driving in Detroit, with its vehicles now navigating Motor City streets without anyone in the driver's seat.
The company said Detroit residents will soon see more of its driverless vehicles on the road as it validates its autonomous technology in the city. Waymo described the milestone as one step closer to welcoming its first local riders.
It has not announced a public launch date yet, but it's encouraging Detroit residents to download the Waymo app to get in line for when service opens.

Detroit is the latest stop in a busy year of US expansion for Waymo. The company launched public robotaxi service in Miami and Orlando in April and Las Vegas in July, with Denver, San Diego and Tampa lined up next. In Nashville, Lyft riders can now be matched with Waymo robotaxis.
Waymo is also expanding overseas, with public rides in Munich targeted for late 2027 and fully autonomous rides in Singapore planned for 2028.
