EVwire brief: BYD has quietly launched its Canadian website, giving the Chinese automaker its first dedicated online presence in Canada as it prepares for a broader market entry.
BYD’s current Canadian site is more of an introduction to the company. BYD Canada says it does not currently support vehicle purchases, leases, reservations, pre-orders or deposits. But it gives a pretty clear preview of what the company wants Canadian buyers to notice first: FLASH Charging.

BYD highlights its second-generation Blade Battery and Flash Charging technology prominently, claiming charging from 10% to 70% in five minutes and to 97% in nine minutes under its stated test conditions.
The company also highlights performance at -30°C, where it says a 20%-to-97% charge takes 12 minutes.
BYD Canada’s website puts the spotlight on FLASH Charging.
The Canadian site also carries BYD's broader technology lineup, including its e⁴, DMO and DM-i platforms, along with information on the company's vehicles and battery technology. We have previously reported on BYD planning to bring it’s Flash Charging technology also to its cheaper side of the lineup, starting with the Atto 3.
For now, however, Canadian visitors won't find a vehicle configurator or ordering system.

Still, BYD is starting to grow its headcount in Canada, with 11 management job postings across Toronto and Vancouver. The hiring push is concentrated in the Greater Toronto Area, where eight positions are posted through BYD North America, including Head of Sales, Marketing Manager, Network Development Manager, and Legal Counsel. Three more roles are listed for Vancouver through BYD Canada: Product Manager, Regional Sales Manager, and IT Manager.
BYD’s Canadian website specifically lists Canada as among the company’s locations in the American region.
Context:
BYD has been preparing for Canada for months. In April, EVwire previously reported that the company was targeting 20 branded Canadian dealerships within a year, with potential locations being explored in the Greater Toronto Area, Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary. The company was also evaluating which models could fit Canada's new trade framework for Chinese-built EVs.

BYD is not the only Chinese automaker eyeing the market. Dongfeng showcased six EV models at Montreal's Grand Quay earlier this year, with two, the Vigo mini SUV and the Box subcompact, currently going through federal certification, both priced under C$35,000 (about US$25,500).
