EVwire brief: Ford's long-promised affordable electric truck finally has a name and a price. It's the Ford Fathom, a midsize electric pickup starting at $28,350, and the first vehicle in Ford’s Universal Electric Vehicle platform.
The reveal, shared on X, adds that the Fathom will be BlueCruise-capable, meaning Ford's hands-free highway driver-assist system, and pitched as fun to drive.

The truck itself is still under camouflage, though more details are promised soon. Ford's choice of name is a hint in itself: a fathom is a measure of depth, a nod that there's more to the truck than has been shown so far.

These details were shared by a Ford representative on Reddit following the vehicle’s announcement on social media:
MSRP starts at $28,350 for the standard-range battery.
Every Ford Fathom will be capable of using Ford's BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system.
The Ford Fathom will support bidirectional power capability.
The Fathom will feature a large high-resolution touchscreen, digital key functionality, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Ford says Fathom will offer more passenger space than a Toyota RAV4, along with both a front trunk (frunk) and a pickup bed for added cargo flexibility.
Instead of relying solely on projected CarPlay, Fathom will feature Apple Maps integrated directly into the vehicle. The embedded system will also provide the road-level mapping data needed for key functions of Ford's next-generation hands-free highway driving system.
Pre-orders are expected to begin in early 2027.

Context:
The Fathom is the first model on Ford's Universal EV Platform, the low-cost architecture built by its California skunkworks team, assembled at the Louisville Assembly Plant with customer deliveries targeted for 2027. Earlier spy shots captured by The Autopian showed a pickup even smaller than the already-compact Maverick, a deliberate swing against ever-growing trucks.
Ford has pitched it as punching above its size: more passenger room than a Toyota RAV4, a 0-60 mph time on par with a Mustang EcoBoost, and a structural prismatic LFP battery pack from its BlueOval Battery Park in Michigan. The starting price had been pegged at around $30,000, and the Fathom lands just under that, at $28,350.
