Tesla celebrates 1,000th Supercharger stall in Australia at Byron Bay

Not bad for a network that was a few dozen coastal sites not long ago.

Tesla celebrates 1,000th Supercharger stall in Australia at Byron Bay

EVwire brief: Tesla has opened its 1,000th Supercharger stall in Australia, and the company picked a fitting spot to mark it: the surf town of Byron Bay, New South Wales.

In its announcement on X, the official Tesla Australia & New Zealand account noted that the site puts 10,000 km (6,214 miles) of major Australian corridors within reach of the Supercharger network.

Tesla counts individual charging stalls as "posts," so the Byron Bay opening is what tipped the Australian tally past a thousand. The milestone unit carries a special-edition wrap and a "No. 1000" plaque, continuing a tradition the company saves for its landmark chargers.

Tesla wrapped Australia's 100th Supercharger site in a green-and-gold casing when it opened near Adelaide in 2024, and finished the world's 75,000th stall in "glacier blue" when that one landed in Hobart, Tasmania, late last year.

Context:

Australia has quietly become one of Tesla's fastest-growing Supercharger markets. The network crossed its 100th site near Adelaide in September 2024 and reached 150 sites in the Hunter Valley wine region this past March, roughly 18 months to add another fifty locations.

The wider network is moving just as fast. Tesla added around 2,500 Supercharger stalls globally in the first quarter of 2026 alone, a record three months for the company.

Locally, Tesla keeps building bigger. Its 20-stall site in Goulburn, New South Wales, held the title of Australia's largest fast-charging location until a 25-plus-stall site was announced for Mackay, Queensland.

More than half of the Australian network is now open to non-Tesla EVs with CCS2 connectors, turning what started as a Tesla-only perk into something closer to public charging infrastructure.
