EVwire brief: 2016 Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg has been riding around San Francisco in a Tesla Cybertruck running Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised, and he says the experience has been life-changing.
Rosberg shared his impressions on LinkedIn after a week of back-to-back founder meetings across the city for his investment firm, Rosberg Ventures. FSD handled much of the commuting between them, which he said let him show up to each meeting focused instead of drained.
Here's how Rosberg described his week with FSD:
"My scarcest resource currently is time. [...] By the evening, it actually felt like I'd won back half a working day!! I even had a mini date with my wife on the drive. My whole racing career, I was the one in control behind the wheel. But I'm now fully willing to hand over control!!"

Rosberg also pointed to how quickly FSD is catching on, noting that 75% of new Teslas delivered in North America last quarter came with FSD, up from 55% three months earlier. "People aren't buying a car and adding the software anymore. They're buying the software, and the car comes with it!" he wrote.
Both figures check out. Tesla CFO Vaibhav Taneja confirmed the 75% attach rate during the company's Q3 2026 earnings call, while the 55% mark came from Tesla's Q2 2026 results.
The former racer also gave Waymo credit for leading on fully driverless rides, though he added that being "better than humans" won't ever be enough for him, and that the real target is zero. He closed with a nudge for his home continent: "In Europe, we're still way behind on this tech. And we for sure need to move faster!!"

Context:
Rosberg won the 2016 Formula 1 World Championship with Mercedes and announced his retirement from the sport just five days later. He has since built a second career around new tech and sustainability, co-founding the Greentech Festival, which held its first edition in Berlin in 2019. His Extreme E team, Rosberg X Racing, also won the all-electric off-road series' inaugural championship in 2021, then took a second title in 2023.
Tech investing is now his day job. Rosberg Ventures, which he founded in 2022, closed its third fund in January with $100 million, bringing its assets under management to $200 million, and Rosberg has personally backed mobility startups such as Lilium, Volocopter and Lyft. His Europe comment also comes as FSD Supervised, now called Tesla Assisted Driving (TAD) in Europe, keeps adding approvals there, with Latvia becoming the tenth country to approve it and Germany backing EU-wide approval.
