Tesla files for Semi truck charging space at two Norwegian rest areas

Tesla files for Semi truck charging space at two Norwegian rest areas

EVwire brief: Tesla has filed with Norway's roads agency for space to install truck charging at two official rest areas, the clearest sign yet that the company is preparing corridor infrastructure for its Semi electric truck in Europe.

Records published through Norway's eInnsyn system show Tesla contacting the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Statens vegvesen, about truck charging at the Mosjøen rest area in Nordland and Svinesundparken near the Swedish border.

As highlighted by Tesla watcher Sawyer Merritt on X:

The records do not disclose how many chargers Tesla wants, their proposed power output, or whether either site has been approved. That said, the Mosjøen inquiry was logged on July 7 under case 2026/196557. The Svinesundparken file, case 2026/207362, includes Tesla's July 15 request and a Vegvesen reply dated August 24 about heavy truck loaders.

The locations would nevertheless be strategically useful. Svinesundparken sits on the E6 about four kilometers from the Swedish border and has 77 overnight truck spaces, while Mosjøen sits on the same highway through northern Norway.

Context:

The timing lines up with Tesla's European Semi plan. On August 20, the company said it will publish European specifications and launch details at IAA Transportation in Hannover from September 15 to 20. In the United States, the Semi is offered in two trims with claimed ranges of about 523 kilometres (325 miles) and 805 kilometres (500 miles) and can charge at up to 1.2 megawatts on Tesla's Megacharger network.

Norway would be a fitting market for the Semi. It has Europe's densest passenger EV market, a large Tesla Supercharger network, and earlier this year switched on the continent's first full V4 Supercharger cabinet near Oslo. But Tesla's Semi charging effort in Europe is not limited to Norway, as highlighted by Jaan on X:

Other operators are already putting megawatt-class truck chargers on Norwegian roads. Asko, for example, opened a 1.2-megawatt Megawatt Charging System site at Vestby in 2025. European Union drivers' hours rules also already force 45-minute breaks after 4.5 hours at the wheel, which fits perfectly with the Tesla Semi and its 500-mile range.
