Tesla announces Europe Semi specs and launch details are unveiled at IAA Transportation in September

EVwire brief:  Tesla will unveil the European Semi’s specifications and launch details at IAA Transportation in Hannover, Germany, giving us the clearest look yet at when and how the electric truck will enter the European market.

Tesla announced the plan Thursday through its official Semi account, saying the details will be revealed at the upcoming commercial-vehicle show. IAA Transportation runs September 15–20, with a dedicated press day on September 14.

EVwire will be present and report back live.

Here's the post from the Tesla Semi account on X today:

This is particularly interesting because Tesla has already shown that the Semi can be adapted for Europe.

When the truck made its European debut at IAA in 2024, Tesla brought over two US-built vehicles with relatively minor changes for the European market. At the time, Tesla displayed two units and offered test rides to the public for the first time.

EVwire's Jaan Juurikas was among the first five members of the public to ride in the Semi at that event and reported extensively from the show floor.

Here’s Jaan’s extensive deep dive into the Semi’s first European test ride event (click to read):

Context:

When Tesla brought the Semi to IAA in 2024, Jaan learned several details directly from the team.

Tesla confirmed the truck was already street-legal in Europe with only minor modifications to wheel covers, signal lights, and similar details.

The company also referred to the European build as the "European Development Platform."

Dan Priestley, who leads the Semi program, told Jaan that Tesla would "never do CCS" for the Semi in Europe, pointing instead toward megawatt-class charging infrastructure.

Two years later, you can see how the wild call back then can absolutely already work today.

Priestley also confirmed at the time that Tesla was focusing on ramping North American production first before bringing the Semi to European customers. That ramp is now underway, with numerous businesses such as Einride (with its order of 500 Semis) announcing their adoption of the Tesla Semi.
