EVwire brief: The Tesla Model Y is the most-used all-electric car among Uber drivers in France. The crossover tops the EV rankings in Uber's analysis of the vehicles active on its app in 2025 and 2026.
The Model 3 came in second among EVs on Uber, followed by the BYD Seal. By brand, Tesla ranked second overall with 10.6% of Uber's active fleet in France. Toyota still leads with 48.3%, largely thanks to hybrids like the Corolla and C-HR. Uber shared the data during the Paris Motor Show.
The Model Y does even better in some French cities. In Lyon, it became the most-used vehicle on Uber for the first time in 2026. It also ranks first in Nice, ahead of the Mercedes V-Class. In Marseille, the Model Y and Model 3 together make up nearly 20% of Uber's active fleet.

Paris and Lille are still Toyota territory, with the Japanese automaker's hybrids leading by a wide margin. This means that Paris, France's biggest ride-hailing market, is where EVs still have the most ground to cover.
Mercedes (7.3%), Kia (5.7%) and Hyundai (5.1%) round out Uber France's top five brands. Uber did not share how each brand's vehicles break down by powertrain.
Uber also didn't disclose what share of its French fleet is electric. The company had previously set a goal of reaching 50% EVs in France by the end of 2025, and 100% electric trips in major European cities by 2030.
Uber has backed its EV push in France with a €75 million (about $87 million) Electric Mobility Plan, partnerships with Stellantis, Kia and Hertz, and preferential charging rates with Carrefour Énergies and Electra.

Context:
Uber drivers aren't the only ones in France picking the Model Y. The crossover was France's best-selling car of any fuel type in August, a first for the Model Y, and it did it again in September with 8,183 registrations, ahead of the Peugeot 208 (7,860). Through September, it ranks as France's fourth best-selling car overall with 37,841 units.
The wider French market is moving in the same direction. Fully electric cars made up a record share of roughly four in ten new car registrations in France in September, as per AAA Data.
Uber has also been pushing electrification at the leadership level. In late 2025, it hired Andrew Cornelia, previously CEO of Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging North America, as its Global Head of Electrification & Sustainability. At the time, Cornelia said ridehail drivers on Uber were going electric 5x faster than the general population across the US, Canada and Europe.
