EVwire brief: Tesla opened a new Supercharger station in Wolfsburg, the home of Volkswagen Group, and made good use of the irony with a friendly jab at VW ID. Series: the large white lettering painted on the ground reads “I’D CHARGE HERE.”
It’s situated about 4km from the main plant just across the
The station is located at 12 Westerlinge, Wolfsburg, and it features 16 V4 charging stalls that are capable of charging up to 250 kW.
The official Tesla Charging account shared a photo of the new Supercharger in a post on X, naturally without a single hint to the lettering, and even keeping it just partly visible.
Tesla’s pun lands squarely on Volkswagen’s lineup of electric vehicles, most of which are badged with the “ID.” name.
Read aloud, the sign doubles as an invitation to VW EV owners to plug in at the Supercharger, which just so happens to be built in the backyard of the German automaker’s headquarters — about 4 kilometers from VW’s plant & HQ.
There’s even more going on with the site here, as we’ve discovered the KFC that Tesla has put these chargers up next to is also across the street from “VW Forum für Marketing und Kommunikation” per Google Maps, which we believe doesn’t require much translation.
Here’s what a view we found from the KFC looks like — it seems there’s a chance that the higher floor windows of the building are looking at exactly the “I’D charge” on the site right there:

In Europe, both Tesla and Volkswagen use the same CCS2 charging standard. This means that owners of a VW ID. The model can pull up to many Superchargers and plug in without needing an adapter. To start charging, drivers simply use the Tesla app on their phone.
You can see the rates for non-Tesla drivers at the Wolfsburg Supercharger in the image below. (They’re not cheap, unless drivers go for a Tesla Supercharging Membership, which costs €9.99 per month or €100 per year.)

Wolfsburg’s EV adoption
Wolfsburg was founded in 1938 specifically to support Volkswagen’s original factory, effectively making it one of Germany’s most prominent “company towns.” Today, it has grown into a modern urban center with around 125,000 residents.
Thanks to Volkswagen’s presence, Wolfsburg consistently sees about double the national average for EV ownership, thanks to programs such as VW’s employee leasing. Current local estimates for Spring 2026 place EV fleet penetration in Wolfsburg at nearly 1 in 10 vehicles in Q1 2026.
