BYD delivers 100K NEVs in the UK, plans 300 Flash Charging stations by end of 2026

EVwire brief: BYD celebrated 100,000 new energy vehicle (NEV) sales in the UK. With this milestone, the company has become the fastest brand in UK automotive history to reach a 5% market share.

BYD executive vice president He Zhiqi confirmed the feat on Wednesday. Visiting the company's first UK flash charging site in Uxbridge, he also stated that BYD plans to roll out 300 flash charging stations across the country by year-end.

BYD's UK share has since topped 7%. The company has overtaken BMW, Tesla and Volkswagen to become the country's largest EV brand, thanks in no small part to its healthy number of affordable offerings in both the BEV and PHEV segments.

BYD celebrates 100,000 deliveries in the UK

The delivery milestone caps a steep climb. BYD sold 26,396 NEVs in the UK in the first four months of this year, up 124% year-on-year, after entering the market only in March 2023 with the Atto 3, sold as the Yuan Plus in China.

The flash charging push brings BYD's headline charging tech to British roads. BYD unveiled its new-generation fast charging in China in March, and paired with the second-generation Blade Battery, it can take a compatible vehicle from 10% to 97% in nine minutes.

BYD’s Flash Charging system is available even in affordable vehicles

Context:

BYD took 19 months to reach 10,000 cumulative UK sales, then went from 10,000 to 20,000 in just five months, helped by a lineup that now spans 11 NEV models across battery-electric and plug-in hybrid, from the £18,675 Dolphin Surf to the £47,025 Sealion 7.

The run is more striking since BYD models do not qualify for UK government subsidies, while some rivals' cars still draw discounts of up to 3,750 pounds ($5,040). The growth is also part of BYD's wider expansion across Europe.

Cuts to the service network, in the same week the mainstream R2 started leaning on it.
