EVwire brief: BYD is bringing its Flash Charging system to commercial vehicles, with the company unveiling a version capable of delivering up to 1,500 kW per cable at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover.
The charging system was showcased alongside BYD’s new ETT 44 electric tractor, which can charge from 20% to 80% in around 20 minutes using MCS. This means that the vehicle can add up to 400 km (248 miles) of range using BYD’s charging system. The 44-tonne truck also has a 651 kWh Blade Battery, up to 1,000 PS of peak power, and a claimed range of 600 km (373 miles).

Diego Pareschi, BYD’s Director of EV Charging, said the new system is designed to cover multiple vehicle types, not just trucks. He also stated that the system supports both CCS and MCS, with each cable capable of delivering up to 1,500 kW.
BYD expects the technology to reach European roads from the end of 2026, with AFIR compliance targeted for Q4 2027.

BYD has already developed Flash Charging around its passenger EVs, with the system capable of delivering up to 1,500 kW through a single connector. The technology uses a combination of high-power charging hardware and energy storage to handle the enormous bursts of power required for ultra-fast charging.
