EVwire brief: Einride is teaming up with NVIDIA to evaluate Alpamayo, the chipmaker's AI reasoning driving model, for the Einride Driver, with the Swedish company aiming to become the first trucking firm to deploy Alpamayo on NVIDIA Hyperion.
Alpamayo is NVIDIA's Vision Language Action (VLA) model, capable of reading a driving scene, proposing how the vehicle should move and explaining the reasoning behind that call. Within the Einride Driver, the model will sit inside Einride's own safety architecture, which keeps full authority over the truck.
Einride outlined the plan on LinkedIn:

Are you a heavy-duty EV geek? We just launched eTruckwire, a whole news publication dedicated to electric trucks and heavy-duty charging.
Einride plans to tailor Alpamayo to its own trucks, routes and operating data, an approach the company expects to speed up development and lower the cost of bringing the Einride Driver to new vehicle types and routes. The model will be post-trained and distilled on Einride's proprietary freight data, then tested in "shadow mode," running live without controlling the truck so its outputs can be measured against Einride's driving planner and human drivers. That work builds toward a live road evaluation planned for the second half of 2027.
Einride CTO Henrik Green said the company's real-world freight operations are what set it apart, and that going first gives Einride a say in how the model develops for trucking:
"Our advantage has always been running autonomous freight in the real world, for real customers. Alpamayo brings valuable reasoning capabilities we can build on as we continue to design, build and operate the Einride Driver and our safety architecture. Being the first trucking company in this engagement gives us the opportunity to help shape the model for freight."

Context:
Einride's announcement landed the same day Bolt revealed it had picked NVIDIA's Alpamayo Stack to drive its European robotaxi program, starting with Lucid vehicles in Madrid in 2027. Both companies are building on Hyperion, though their approaches differ. Bolt is adopting NVIDIA's full-stack driving software for ride-hailing, while Einride is evaluating Alpamayo inside its own driving system and safety architecture for freight.
Einride, for its part, has been expanding its autonomous operations on both sides of the Atlantic. Its cab-less, driverless trucks went live in Ohio with EASE Logistics earlier this month, following a Level 4 deployment with Lidl on a public road in Germany in September. The company also partnered with DAF to integrate the Einride Driver into DAF's electric trucks, and ordered 500 Tesla Semis for Amazon and other shippers.
