Hey, Jaan here.
It’s been a minute since we last wrote.
Don’t worry, Jaan has not chosen another industry to focus on.
You can’t get rid of the EV geek in me.
Instead, I’ve been building towards the bigger EVwire system, creating some amazing reports for our B2B partners, and… some other moves I’m about to tell you about:
In today’s EVwire newsletter, we’ll take a look at:
We acquired another EV media company and have a new team member;
A more readable version of our H1 2025 Global EV sales report over 65 markets;
A roundup of our recently published EVwire original news articles, everything from an EV getting hit by a meteorite while driving (yes really) to the next-gen Chevy Bolt details.
Collection of recent deep dive essays from my keyboard.
Enjoy!
PS! My records tell me you haven’t signed up for the EVwire Insider yet.
It takes 30 seconds to join us, and you’ll enjoy unlocking the extra value over your membership.

EVWIRE ACQUIRES EV NORTH

Can’t get more aligned than this.
I’m happy to announce I've acquired The EV North, a Canada-focused EV publication run by Michael Timmons. He will be joining our EVwire team!
I've been watching Michael's work from the start as I’m always playing around in the niches of the EV industry, and we've become good friends along the way (EV geeks need to stick together, don't we).
If I were only on the receiving end of Michael's work right now, I'd be sad his newsletter was stopping. His values in concise and context-adding writing match up well with my own.
Luckily, I know for a fact that his Canada-focused EV industry coverage is going to continue and only ramp up over time, now to the whole EVwire audience!
Michael built a valuable publication over the years, gathered some great EV geeks up North as readers, and I'm very happy to have him on my side now.
He hit the ground running and some of his recent articles on our platform include:
SWTCH and FLO partner to provide seamless roaming EV charging across North America (link)
The Multi-Family EV Charging Problem (link)
Canada struggles with internal tug-of-war when it comes to China EV tariffs (link)
GM & Vale freeze Canada battery plans citing weak EV demand (link)
GM ends BrightDrop production at CAMI (link) … that’s huge news actually, RIP BrightDrop 🪦
Amazon’s Electric Delivery Vans Hit the Streets in Vancouver (link)
You’ll see more of Michael’s work soon through our restarted newsletters & a certain special project launching soon! 🇨🇦
I can't wait to show you all what we've got cooking for our EV industry media. We’ve also got another team member joining us, but I’ll keep it under the wraps for now ;)
THE GLOBAL EV SALES REPORT IS NOW AVAILABLE IN A MORE READABLE FORM
I sent you a fresh and interactive H1 2025 EV Sales report a bit back.
While that interactive, storytelling view (in case you missed it, go check it out at least once since it’s unique and took me a month to build) takes the reader through the EV sales story in a more interesting and memorable way, it requires a bit too much of scrolling.
Some of you left this note in the feedback forms, and I thank you — I know what you mean. For the full year’s version, I’ll try to reduce that.
But until then, I recreated the report in our familiar article form as well:
In either form, you’ll find the largest EV sales report out there for free, with 65 markets analyzed and ranked with exact sales numbers, YoY growth and EV market share, along with roundup graphs for it all.
It’s been very fun to see this report spread, from several youtube videos, socials, EV news sites to even local sites like Norway’s EV Association page just today (elbil.no article).
A ROUNDUP OF OUR LATEST EVWIRE ARTICLES
We’ll return with our newsletters shortly as we’re ramping up the news coverage (daily now, find them on evwire.com feed), but here’s a roundup of some of our EVwire original articles I’d highlight:
Roundup of Tesla’s Annual Shareholder Meeting on Thursday and, in addition to the largest news of Elon’s up-to-a-trillion pay package being approved, we got a lot of details on what Tesla builds, where it went off the path a little, and some great insider footage from the current developments. (link) Most importantly, we got a peek at the Cybercab production line at a sub 10 second cycle time!
Tesla Model Y is now field-tested to be the safest car if you get hit by a meteorite. Literally — a Tesla driver in Australia got hit by a meteorite, and the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) that it had engaged saved him from the worst while he was occupied with the flying glass. (link)
Tesla officially opens its first fully V4 Supercharger, capable of 500kW car and 1.2MW truck charging. (link)
Here’s a look at Mercedes’ expiremental charging vehicle called ELF, which can do EVerything when it comes to charging as it has CCS, MCS, Bidirectional AC & DC, and inductive and conductive charging. (link)
US: DHL introduces first 45 Mercedes e-Sprinters to its US fleet, DHL now has 10,000 in operation globally. (link) 🤯
Lyft reserves hundreds of Tensor Auto robotaxis and integrates to make Lyft-ready. Why? (link)

Watch tip: Waymo says "thank you" after being unblocked by people (video).
Waymo is also entering Europe, starting with London in 2026 (link).
New Chevy Bolt EV 2027: here are all specs for the new Bolt, starting at $28,995 (link).

Here are the 35 things Tesla removed or changed for Model Y Standard & Model 3 Standard trims, the new entry-level versions for Tesla. (link) Also congrats to all previous Model Y owners who got their trims upgraded to the name ‘Premium’.
Tesla’s Semi analysis for Uber Freight (they partnered up) shows $320,000 advantage over diesel (link). Tesla says its all-electric Semi truck will save California Transport operators $320,000 over 800k miles of driving, and $75,000 over 200k miles.

Resource tip: The prices of 45 electric buses and 69 electric trucks in the US analyzed (link).
Watch tip: Here’s Mate Rimac, taking you through, on video, his thoughts on the past and future of Rimac Campus, Phase 1, in Croatia. (video) Fun fact, the founder and CEO of Spotify happened to reshare my post there… for some reason.
SOME MORE INSIGHTS FROM MY KEYBOARD:
I’ve published some essay type articles on the EV industry together with one of our B2B partners, Eleport (one of the largest CPOs in Central and Eastern Europe), which I think you might find insightful.
These are all the usual me, ranting about these topics in the longer form:
What You Need to Know About Chinese EVs Entering European Roads (link).
8% of the BEVs sold in Europe were Chinese in Q2 2025.The Four Different Types of Charging Operators and Why It Matters (link).
I tried to classify different CPOs, let me know how I did.EV Charging Costs Explained – What Is Behind The kWh Price of Fast Charging? (link)
Going through what’s in the charging price, really. It Only Takes 30 Seconds To Charge Your EV (link).
This is a fun one… yet true!Should I Charge My EV to 100%? Here’s How It Depends on the Battery You Have (link)
We even made a handy graph on this topic:

Key Factors That Will Shape EV Charging Infrastructure by 2030 (link).
My most forward-looking one.EV Route Planning – What Tools to Use For Planning Your Multi-Country EV Road Trips in Europe in 2025. (link)
I know road-trip season is mostly over now, but I wanted to really find out the best tools for myself. Most of these apply to US, too.
In addition to this (and other) work with Eleport, some of our public partnerships include:
Me writing the weekly Tesla Space newsletter (join through here), and
The monthly reports for Voltera’s subscribers (US EV fleet, robotaxi & charging infra focused, join though here).
There are some other more private partnerships we’ve got going on that play with the EV market intelligence that I constantly gather. These ensure the longevity of EVwire and support me in building up the largest & most accessible EV intelligence platform out there.
PS! If you think I might be able to provide value to your business with my insights (specialized public or private reports) and EVwire platform (more EV geek eyeballs on your business), reply to this email.

We’ll be back soon with our “regular” type of newsletters you’ve come to enjoy over the years, which is now increasingly pointing to our daily original EVwire articles.
FEEDBACK: What did you think of today's report?
96.55% of you went for the thumbs up on our previous newsletter. Wonderful! Thank you, especially to those leaving your comments. Here are a few of yours:
Brian said:
“BEVs have passed the point of the "low hanging fruit". Folks like you and me have adopted BEVs. What you are seeing now is the actual penetration of BEVs into the general population of automobile owners. We are also seeing the shakeout of the early producers. Doing the prototype is easy compared to then moving on to efficient quantity production. All of this is to be expected in any new market.”
— I agree. With all of it.
Richard said:
“Another great newsletter. Thanks Jaan. 😊”
— Thanks for being on the receiving end, R!
Bruce said:
“New, but enjoying, thank you.”
— Good to have you with us Bruce, for the years to come!
Thanks all & see you soon!
