EVwire brief: Fastned has opened two dedicated truck lanes at its Kloosters station along the A58 near Oirschot, giving electric trucks and buses a place to charge on one of the Netherlands' busiest freight corridors without mixing with passenger car traffic.
Each lane is equipped with a CCS fast charger meant for heavy-duty vehicles. Trucks can drive straight into the charging bays without cutting across the cars charging at the rest of the station, which Fastned says keeps the stop safe and quick enough for drivers to get back on their route.
Vans and smaller trucks can already charge at many existing Fastned stations, but the new lanes are built specifically for large trucks and buses.

Martijn Repko, Fastned's Country Director for the Netherlands, said the company builds truck charging where space and traffic conditions allow, and that Kloosters fits that description:
"We want to offer charging facilities where needed and where space and traffic conditions permit. Kloosters on the A58 is exactly such a location. The service area has been renovated into a safe, sustainable, and innovative place for road users, and with the new truck lanes, it is also prepared for the next phase of electric transport."
The service area itself doubles as a testbed. Kloosters is part of InnovA58, a site where Dutch road authority Rijkswaterstaat and its partners trial infrastructure and sustainability ideas that can later be rolled out at other service areas. Its renovation used reused asphalt, low-CO2 geopolymer concrete, recycled traffic signs and wooden light poles, and the site now has native plants, a toad pond, a bee colony and water systems that collect and filter rainwater.

Context:
Kloosters is the latest addition to Fastned's truck charging network in the Benelux. The company opened a truck lane at the Venlose Heide service area on the A67 near Venlo in November 2025, and in Belgium it already runs truck lanes at Gentbrugge on the E17 between Ghent and Antwerp, as well as at Peutie-West, Peutie-Oost and Walshoutem.
Other operators are building out heavy-duty charging across Europe as well. Aral pulse recently opened its truck charging network to Amazon partners in Germany, while PragmaCharge opened its first UK e-truck hub in Felixstowe. ICCT and Fraunhofer ISI estimate that Europe's e-truck charging demand could reach 100 TWh by 2035. This means that Fastned is adding truck lanes as demand for heavy-duty charging along Europe's freight corridors is expected to climb.
