EVwire brief: Xpeng has started shipping the Mona L05 to overseas markets ahead of the SUV's October 29 launch in China. The company plans to sell the model in 65 countries and regions.
On Monday, Xpeng announced the global shipments for the Mona L05 on Weibo. It did not share the number of vehicles in the first batch, which markets the first batch would go to, or when overseas deliveries to buyers would begin. It also did not specify which powertrains each market will get.

The L05 is the third model in Xpeng's Mona series, which targets younger buyers. It is a five-seat midsize SUV that sits above the Mona L03, which launched in July. Xpeng will hold the L05's China launch alongside a "Mona World" owners' gathering.
Xpeng developed left- and right-hand-drive versions of the L05 in parallel, with 660 vehicles sent for extreme-condition testing across 25 countries and regions. Those tests covered high-speed cabin noise in Germany, powertrain performance at high altitude in Mexico, and reliability at 50°C (122°F) in the UAE and -25°C (-13°F) in Norway.

Xpeng says the SUV was developed to meet 5-star safety standards in China, Europe and Australia, citing C-NCAP 2024, Euro NCAP 2027 and ANCAP 2027, with seven airbags, a 2,000 MPa-class body structure and multiple layers of battery protection. Those are development targets, as Xpeng has not released any actual crash-test ratings for the L05.
The company also teased the European debut of its Turing AI driver-assistance system, which uses its second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) model and up to 1,500 TOPS of computing power, without giving a rollout date.

Context:
The global rollout comes as Xpeng's monthly deliveries recover. The company delivered 41,256 vehicles in September, its highest monthly total this year, up 5.50% from August but down 0.78% year over year. Its deliveries for the first nine months of 2026 totaled 284,367 vehicles, down 9.20% from the same period last year.
The L05 also joins a growing Xpeng push outside China. Xpeng took the L03 to Europe in July, with the company also targeting 4,000+ fast chargers in Europe by 2028. Back in May, Xpeng was also reported to be in talks with Volkswagen to acquire a European factory.
Xpeng is leaning on new models to push those numbers higher. Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said on the company's August earnings call that Xpeng aims to exceed 60,000 monthly sales in the fourth quarter, with the G9L and Mona L05 among the new models expected to help get it there.
