EVwire brief: Tesla's Cybercab rides are launching in limited areas of Austin, Texas only, according to a newly published support page on Tesla's website. The broader Robotaxi service continues to operate with Model Y vehicles in Tampa, Miami, Austin, Dallas, and Houston, with expansion to additional cities planned in the coming months.
EVwire's Jaan highlighted this little tidbit on X:
The Austin-only limitation is not surprising given that Tesla's autonomous driving permits and operational infrastructure are most developed there. But it does suggest that the Robotaxi service that runs on Model Y vehicles in five Texas and Florida cities is a separate thing from the Cybercab rollout, at least for now. That said, fleets of Cybercabs have been sighted across multiple U.S. cities, so the fleet’s wider rollout might prove quicker than expected.
For now, the Austin geofence is the Cybercab’s playground, as confirmed by Tesla watcher Whole Mars Catalog:
Elon Musk has been pretty open about the idea of the Tesla Robotaxi Network being populated primarily by the Cybercab, thanks in part to the fact that most rideshare sessions involve just one or two passengers. This is part of the reason why the CEO stated in the Q4 2025 earnings call that “long-term, we would make several times more Cybercabs per year than all of our other vehicles combined.” That includes the Model Y, which has been the world’s best-selling car for several years running.
The Cybercab’s debut city will be Austin, Texas, but the presence of Cybercab fleets in other U.S. cities suggests that a wider rollout might also be coming soon in other locations.

The Cybercab support page doubles as the most detailed official description of the Cybercab experience published so far. Tesla describes the vehicle as a "golden two-seater with butterfly doors and a large interactive touchscreen," designed to be fully autonomous with no steering wheel. It uses camera vision and sensors to navigate city streets, highways, intersections, and parking lots.
On the practical side, Tesla says the Cybercab trunk fits two standard check-in suitcases and two carry-on bags, and the cabin is described as spacious with ample legroom. During rides, passengers can adjust climate settings, seat position, and access entertainment features like music streaming through the touchscreen or the Robotaxi app. Those preferences are saved to a passenger profile and carry over between rides automatically.
