Tesla sets September 24 opening for new Semi Factory near Giga Nevada

EVwire brief: Tesla will officially open its new dedicated Semi factory in Sparks, Nevada, on September 24, with an invite-only “Semi Rollout” event that will give attendees factory tours and ride-along experiences in the electric Class 8 truck.

The event was announced by Tesla in a post on the Tesla Semi’s official account on X. The company dubbed the occasion the “inauguration” of the Semi Factory in Nevada.

An image of the event’s invitation, shared by Tesla watcher Sawyer Merritt, indicates that guests will be able to tour the facility, experience the Semi on a ride-along and bring one additional guest. Tesla noted that RSVPs are due by September 2, with IDs checked at the door and admission restricted to those 21 and older.

Here’s the invite, as shared by Sawyer Merritt on X:

Context:

The event lands right in the middle of what's been a breakout stretch for the Semi program. The first Semi rolled off the Nevada’s factory's high-volume production line in late April. The facility itself, a dedicated 1.7-million-square-foot building next to Gigafactory Nevada, is designed to eventually churn out 50,000 trucks a year.

The commercial momentum has been real, too. Earlier this month, Einride placed a 500-truck order, the largest Tesla Semi deployment to date, with rollout starting this September across five US states. Tesla also opened its second public Megacharger station in Vernon, California, adding six 1.2 MW stalls to the charging network.

The September 24 event also comes just days after IAA Transportation in Hannover (September 15 to 20), where Tesla confirmed it will unveil European Semi specs and launch details.
