South Carolina's first Tesla Supercharger for Business site opens on Isle of Palms, from Dominion Energy

EVwire brief: South Carolina's first Tesla Supercharger for Business site is now open at the Island Center shopping center on Isle of Palms, adding fast charging to one of the Charleston area's busiest beach destinations.

The new station, located at 1507 Palm Boulevard, features four V4 Supercharger stalls equipped with Magic Dock, allowing both NACS and CCS-equipped electric vehicles to charge at speeds of up to 325 kW. The site sits along the Isle of Palms Connector, providing convenient access for drivers traveling between Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island, Mount Pleasant, and nearby Charleston.

The installation also stands out visually. Each Supercharger cabinet features a custom wrap created by LINGEO Sign, showcasing artwork inspired by Isle of Palms and marking the location as South Carolina's first Supercharger for Business site. The project was delivered by Dominion Energy South Carolina, which designed and built the charging station through its turnkey EV charging program for the Island Center.

Dominion Energy Manager of Utilities Services Support Scott Runyon posted about the location on LinkedIn.

In a comment to EVwire, Scott Runyon explained why the utility's branding appears on the chargers. He also added that the company sees significant demand for additional fast charging across the region.

❝

"Dominion South Carolina put the logo on because they built the station under their EV charging station turnkey program for the Site host who paid the full cost for it.[…] South Carolina needs more fast charging stations, especially in Charleston area. Dominion plans to help site hosts build many more in their service territory."

—Scott Runyon, Manager of Utilities Services Support at Dominion Energy

Runyon noted that Dominion Energy's electrification team provides advisory services for customers pursuing EV charging projects, including utility coordination, design, permitting, procurement, installation, activation and ongoing support.

Context:

Tesla's Supercharger for Business program allows businesses, property owners, utilities and fleet operators to install Tesla's fast-charging equipment on their own properties rather than waiting for Tesla to build a company-owned location.

Under the program, hosts purchase and own the charging infrastructure while working with Tesla-certified partners to handle engineering, permitting, construction and long-term support. The approach has expanded Tesla's charging footprint into hotels, shopping centers, restaurants and commercial destinations while maintaining compatibility with Tesla's broader Supercharger ecosystem.

Some notable Supercharger for Business installations include:

  • Little General’s Superchargers at a Columbia, MO travel center.

  • ChargedEV Hubs’ 8-stall Superchargers in Norcross, Georgia

  • EVIO Charging and Powerup EV Solutions’ first Supercharger for Business site in New York

  • Suncoast Charging’s newest conservation-themed chargers in Wesley Chapel, Florida

Tesla has also rolled out a Supercharger for Business Calculator that shows exactly how much a business would have to invest for their own Supercharger sites.
