EVwire brief: Tesla has rolled out a larger Robotaxi service area in Houston, with the new geofence now reaching downtown Houston and Bellaire.
Tesla's official Robotaxi account shared a map of the update on X, showing the expanded zone running southeast from the original service area in northwest Houston, through the city center, and down to Bellaire.

The original geofence is folded into the new one. Tesla did not share the new area's size, though what is really evident is the new geofence’s shape, which is modeled after SpaceX’s Starship. Size-wise, EVwire estimates that the new Starship-shaped geofence is roughly 8-10x larger than the old one, which was approximately 25 square miles.
Responses to the updated geofence among Tesla community members on X are positive, though many are urging the company to roll out the Cybercab en masse on Houston as well. The Cybercab has been ramping aggressively in Austin, with the fleet recently reaching 465 units.

Context:
Tesla first launched Robotaxi rides in Houston on April 18, with the service running without a safety driver or front-seat monitor from day one. The original Houston service area covered roughly 25 square miles (about 65 square kilometers), and the city has since become one of six US metros with unsupervised Robotaxi rides, alongside Austin, Dallas, Miami, Orlando and Tampa.
The Houston expansion comes as Tesla widens its Robotaxi footprint in Texas. During its Q3 2026 earnings call, Tesla said Cybercab rides would launch in Dallas next month, and that it aims to run Robotaxi around the clock by the end of the year. This means that Houston riders now have a much larger slice of the city to hail a Robotaxi in, as Tesla scales its service across the state.
